Created in the isolation of solitary confinement, this piece is a testament to family, survival, and pride. Painted with juice pack pigments on the back of six legal documents, each sheet comes together like a puzzle—just as memories, struggles, and triumphs form the pieces of a life.

In this deeply personal work, Benito honors his older brother—the one he always looked up to, the one who made it out of a place where not many of us ‘make it.’ In the silence of his cell, he often thought of all they had overcome as a family. Through this portrait, he wanted to show him: I see you. I’m proud of you. You are my proof that escape is possible.
